Tomika Whiu

Tomika Whiu (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāiterangi, Ngāti Maniapoto) is a commanding actor, story teller and cultural leader.

With 35 years performing with legendary kapa haka group Te Waka Huia, Tomika brings a lifetime of embodied tikanga Māori to every role. His fluency in Te Reo Māori and deep knowledge of Te Ao Māori make him a trusted voice in the rising wave of indigenous storytelling.

Tomika’s breakout screen role was as Aorangi in Lee Tamahori’s powerful historical epic The Convert, opposite Guy Pearce. He followed this with a compelling performance in the internationally acclaimed film Ka Whawhai Tonu, opposite Cliff Curtis and Temuera Morrison.

In the Whakaata Māori series End Of The Valley, Tomika’s gravitas anchors the drama's emotional core, and his recent performance as Uncle Heta in short film Rapido no doubt assisted the film with it’s Best Live Action Short Film win at the 2025 Toronto imagineNATIVE Film Festival.

Whether embodying a warrior, elder, father, or silent protector; Tomika brings a quiet strength, cultural authenticity, and an unmistakable mana to every frame.
